Write effective prompts in Campaign Agent
You don't need a perfectly formed prompt to get started. If you know what you want, provide the details upfront and Campaign Agent will build from there. If you're still exploring, keep it brief — Campaign Agent will ask clarifying questions until it understands your intent.
When Campaign Agent asks clarifying questions
Campaign Agent asks clarifying questions when your prompt leaves out details it needs to build a meaningful campaign brief — such as the target audience, timing, or key message. It asks a small number of focused questions, one at a time, and may present them as structured choices to make it easier to respond.
You don't need to answer every question in full. If you're unsure, you can ask Campaign Agent to make a recommendation and it will proceed with sensible defaults based on your campaign type and industry.
How to write more specific prompts
If you want more control over the outcome, add detail upfront. The more specific your prompt, the fewer clarifying questions you'll get.
Be specific and goal-oriented
Include the objective, key message, and timing when you know them.
- Vague: "Create an email campaign."
- Specific: "Create an abandoned cart campaign with two follow-ups sent 24 hours and 72 hours after abandonment."
Include key parameters upfront
Be explicit with non-standard data, attribute, and event names. This prevents Campaign Agent from misinterpreting your inputs.
- "Exclude customers with bronze
loyalty_tier." - "Target customers who used express shipping at least twice in the past 6 months."
Provide context when needed
Add context only when it would change how your campaign behaves — such as regional habits, industry norms, or brand rules.
- "In France, avoid sending marketing emails on Sundays."
- "This campaign is for B2B software customers — keep the tone professional and concise."
TipCampaign Agent remembers context and rules within a single session. For example, if you tell it your business never uses vouchers or that wait times should always be at least 24 hours, it'll apply those rules automatically as you build your campaign.
