Email testing

Testing is an essential part of campaign creation. Use at least one of the options below before launching any live campaign.

Preview an email

Previewing emails may require segmentation access. If things aren't loading, check that you have a Segmentations/Analyses Viewer role in addition to Campaigns Admin or Editor.

Preview customer-specific rendering

The Overview tab shows a rendered preview for a specific customer, including their personalization.

  • Browse customers using the arrow buttons, or type an email address into the input field.
  • Click the filter icon to narrow the preview to a specific segment—useful when your email includes personalization.
  • Toggle between desktop and mobile views.

Preview in specific environments

The Email Previews tab shows how your email looks across different environments—for example, the iOS Gmail client. Your template is placed within a screenshot from each environment so you can spot visual issues like image fitting.

Go to Test > Email Previews tto generate previews. Select an environment for a full-scale rendering. Use the controls at the bottom to regenerate after making changes.

We strongly recommend sending a test email to yourself or colleagues before launching.

Preview with on-event trigger data

If your email has an on-event trigger, the preview automatically uses a matching past event to render the campaign.

If the email is part of a scenario, select which on-event trigger to use by its action ID and type. The platform finds the first matching event for the selected customer and renders the preview using it. If no match exists, it uses any event of the same type found in the project.

🚧

Important

This only works on the Overview tab—not in Send test email or preview link or Email Previews.

Send a test email or preview link

Click Send test email or preview link in the top-right corner of the email editor.

Test email

Send a test email to check how it looks from a customer's perspective. You can send to up to 20 addresses at once — separate them with a space, comma, period, colon, or semicolon.

The email uses the currently open language version, A/B variant, and selected preview customer.

Web preview link

Generate a shareable link and send it to colleagues — no login or test email required. The link uses the currently open language version, A/B variant, and selected preview customer.

Links are valid for 91 days and saved to your local storage. When you return to the modal, your existing link appears if it matches the current language and variant. Links aren't saved globally. You only see ones you've generated yourself.

Note

Previewing and sending test emails doesn't generate campaign events. If your email uses recommendations, no recommendation serve event is tracked.

Other testing methods

  • Use a seed list: Import test addresses into Bloomreach as customer profiles, then include them in campaigns or segmentations for inbox placement testing.
  • Use a tester segment: Import internal reviewer addresses as customer profiles and include them in your segmentations or scenarios. They'll receive emails as part of the normal campaign flow.
  • Send to multiple inboxes using an alias address: The Send test email feature accepts one address at a time. To reach multiple inboxes, use a group or alias address — for example, [email protected] — that forwards to all relevant recipients.
