Gmail annotation testing

This guide helps you check and test your Gmail annotations. You'll learn how to use Gmail's preview tools, test your setup, and fix common problems.

Before you start

Complete the Gmail annotations setup first.

Use Gmail's preview tool

Gmail has a preview tool that checks your annotations before you send emails. This tool helps you:

  • Check if your code works.
  • Make sure your images meet the rules.
  • See how your annotations look in the Promotions tab.

📘

Important

Fix any errors in the preview tool before sending your email.

Understand testing limitations

  • Gmail doesn't guarantee your annotations will show. This happens even when you set everything up right.
  • Testing in real inboxes is tricky. Annotations don't show for single email tests, and you need to send to many recipients.
  • Annotations might take time to appear after you send emails.

Check for common issues

Read the Gmail's Troubleshooting article to fix the most common problems:

  • Expired dates in annotations.
  • Reused or duplicate images.
  • Images that don't meet aspect ratio requirements.
  • Code placed in the wrong section of your email.
  • Emails not reaching the Promotions tab.
