Analytics notifications

Analytics notifications let you set up alerts for any metric so you're notified the moment specific conditions are met — for example, when events stop tracking or a segment drops below a certain size. This helps you catch and fix issues before they affect your data quality.

How to set up a notification

  1. Go to Data & Assets.
  2. Create a new metric or open an existing one.
  3. Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
  4. Select Notifications.
  5. Choose to create a new notification or edit an existing one.
  6. Name the notification.
  7. Define a condition for the alert.
  8. Add the email addresses of anyone who should receive the notification.
  9. Save the notification.

Use cases

Setting up the notification can help you in several situations, such as the following:

  • Goal achievement: Get notified when sales hit a milestone, like 1,000,000 purchases.
  • Purchase monitoring: Catch lower-than-expected daily purchases that might point to a checkout issue.
  • Sign-up tracking: Alert when daily sign-ups fall below 100, which could indicate a form problem.
  • Campaign delivery: Monitor delivery rates and get alerted if status_delivered events fall short of expected targets, which can reveal incorrect campaign settings.
  • Failed campaign events: Detect failed Facebook campaign events caused by invalid customer emails, signaling a customer data issue.

Operators and examples

When creating a notification, choose an operator that matches what you want to track. Some operators apply to both event and customer metrics; others are specific to event metrics.

Event and customer metrics operators

Equals or greater than

Triggers when a metric hits or exceeds a target. Useful for tracking when you reach revenue or sales milestones..

Equals or less than

Triggers when a metric falls below a target. Useful for catching negative trends early, like a drop in revenue..

Event metrics operators

These operators compare the current value to the previous period, using either a fixed number or a percentage.

Increased by more than

Use this operator to set up a condition for the "Number of purchases in the last 24 hours." For example, configure an alert to notify subscribers if purchases rise by more than 50%. This condition is useful for situations like identifying significant increases in sales, possibly due to a successful campaign or promotion.

Decreased by more than

If you want to set up an alert in case your purchases drop, apply this operator to establish a condition for the "Number of purchases in the last 24 hours." This condition can help you quickly address declining sales, which might be due to customer disinterest or technical issues.

Limitations

  • Event-based metrics can't span more than 365 days.
  • Each metric can have up to 5 notifications.
  • Each project can have up to 100 notifications.
  • To avoid notification overload, up to 20 notifications can be sent per day. All notifications are visible in the Notification Center for 7 days.
  • Subscribers must be platform users—third-party email addresses aren't supported.
  • Only project admins or higher can access users' email addresses for security reasons.
  • Disabling a notification for yourself doesn't affect other subscribers—each user manages their own settings independently.
