Build a Website Tutorial Troubleshooting

Got stuck while following the Build a Website tutorial? Here are some tips to help you find the problem:

Check the log files for error messages and warnings

You can find the log files in the following directory inside your Bloomreach Experience Manager project:

target/tomcat8x/logs

Check your browser's Javascript console for error messages and warnings

Most modern browsers provide a Javascript console that point out errors in scripts.

Did you publish your document?

If you made changes to a document and don't see the changes in the website, check if you actually published the document.

Did you publish your channel?

If you made changes to a channel through the channel manager but don't see the changes in the website, check if you actually published the channel.

Did you rebuild your project?

If you installed a new out-of-the-box feature, used the Beanwriter tool or made any changes to Java code, you must stop, rebuild and restart your project for the changes to take effect.

If you are tired of rebuilding, try out JRebel.

Are your head contributions working as expected?

If you used head contributions, use your browser's source view or html inspector to verify that the head contributions are actually included, at the right place.

Is your Freemarker syntax correct?

Some Bloomreach Experience Manager documentation assumes JSP as the templating language used, which has different syntax.
