Improvements

Variant-level filtering and sorting improvements

Filtering variants via merchandising rules and API

Merchandising rules and API now support variant-level filtering, giving you greater control over which variants appear in search results.

What's new

  • All description attributes in the attribute selector are now labeled with a Product or Variant badge, so you can identify the attribute level before building your rule.

  • Include Only and Exclude operations with description attributes now include a Choose level dropdown with two options: Product and Variant, giving you control over the level at which filtering applies. Create separate rules to target each level.

  • Boost and Bury operations work the same. You can use product-level attributes in a single Boost or Bury rule.

Sorting on variants

For SKU Select customers, when sorting by sku_price or other supported variant attributes:

  • The feature displays the correct sort order based on the variants that match the current filters.

  • The product card's Hero SKU corresponds to the sorting condition. For instance, the variant displayed is either the lowest or highest priced, based on ascending/descending sort order.

❗️

Known issue

When SKU Select with variant grouping is enabled, the Sorting functionality might be inconsistent, resulting in an inaccurate sort order. We will improve this in an upcoming release.

Why is this valuable

Variant-level filtering and sorting give you merchandising precision to help you surface the most relevant product variant information.

Manage existing attribute rules

The following applies to the saved rules that mix product-level and variant-level attributes:

  • Include Only or Exclude rules: The system continues to apply the product-level attribute. The variant-level attribute is ignored, and the interface displays a note on Variant attributes ignored for the affected rule.
To resolve this, split the rule into two: one targeting the product-level attribute and one targeting the variant-level attribute.

  • Boost or Bury rules: No action required.

  • Numeric attribute rules are unchanged.
