Release date: October 27, 2025

TL;DR : Transform product variants into discoverable listings, optimize product code queries having formatting variations.

🎉 Feature updates

Variant slicing: Transform variants into discoverable listings that drive business goals

We're excited to launch Variant slicing in beta. This feature provides granular control over slicing a product into discoverable, merchandisable variant listings.

What’s new?

Variant slicing splits the product into separate listings using a variant attribute, such as color, size, material, and so on.

Instead of seeing one "Summer dress" hiding three color options, shoppers see all color options as distinct, findable products.

Key benefits

  • Boost conversions: Shoppers find exact variants in search results instead of sifting through product pages, driving higher engagement and conversions.
  • Instant catalog expansion: 50 products with five color variants become 250 discoverable listings, creating a competitive catalog presence without new inventory.
  • Precise merchandising control: Boost high-margin variants, promote sale listings, or prioritize seasonal inventory as per your merchandising strategy.

Business use cases

  • Fashion retailers: Showcase color and size options directly in search.
  • Furniture brands: Display different materials and price points separately.
  • Seasonal merchandising: Promote winter coats while burying summer styles.

Feature impact

  • Variant slicing works seamlessly with existing merchandising rules and operations.
  • No integration changes are required.
  • A/B testing support for optimizing variant strategies.
  • Compatible with multiview catalogs.

Availability

Beta access is available now for Standard package customers. Contact your Bloomreach representative to access Variant slicing.

Merchandising support

  • Apply boost, bury, and attribute operations on sliced listings.
  • Pinning and conditional slots are unavailable in this iteration.
  • Apply Variant slicing to the local (query/category) rule scope.

The following features will be available in future releases:

  • Performance metrics in Product grid insights.
  • Filters for sliced ranking rules.

Enhanced Lookups: Optimize product code queries having formatting variations

What’s new?

  • Optimize search queries with part numbers or product codes containing different types of special characters.
  • Relax the recall criteria of Lookups to find products even with formatting variations in the part number.

Key benefits

  • User-friendly search: Users generally search for part numbers or product codes using spaces, dashes, or extra symbols, as it can be tedious to type in or remember the exact code. Enhanced Lookups ensure that these small variations return precise results, improving recall.
  • For catalog-heavy customers: Especially beneficial in verticals like automotive, industrial supplies, and B2B retail.

Improvements

Filters in the Category ranking rules list

What improved?

  • Find your category ranking rules quickly by using filters like Duration, Audience, and Enabled status.
  • These filters are available on the category ranking rules list page in the Discovery dashboard: Merchandising > Categories > Ranking rules.

Why is this valuable?

Filters allow you to view or search for category ranking rules with specific conditions. Find the rules you’re looking for with greater ease and speed.
